Getting An Accountant For Small Business
--
Even your writing business
Disclaimer. I am not an accountant, so don't use the advice here for accountant tips. This is just my perspective on when it is right to get an accountant. Always see professional advice from an actual professional.
Oddly, I get asked this question before people start having a business. To me, it's like thinking about what colour the seats are before even choosing a model of a car.
Let me just put this out there. If you have little to no income, then no, you don't' need an accountant. Little income being sub 20k a year. The reason is that the accountant fees would just eat into your business.
So why an accountant if you start bringing in more than 20k a year?
Save the hassle. Like many others, I just want to focus on the business. I don't want to be stuck crunching numbers, googling around how to file certain things, and set up payroll. No, I don't want to do any of that. The time and hassle saved are priceless.
Don't' find the cheapest
Seriously. This is NOT an area where you want to save money. Especially when an accountant is directly in control of managing how much you make and could effectively help save you thousands.
Don't' mess up your tax
The "I didn't know" or "It's not my fault" excuse might have worked when you were a kid, in high school, and maybe even as an employee. But this is your own business. That means you carry the responsibilities of a business owner, and messing up taxes isn't something you want the government or whoever the tax police are in your country to come down on you on.
The hassle of getting audited isn't worth the time
These are the annoyances that draw you away from your business, your passion and what you love to do. These are the tasks that burn business owners out.
I know this probably wasn't what you were expecting. I'm' not an accountant, after all. But I can say that my accountant has saved me countless hours when it comes to filing and organization. All I need to do is submit a few receipts electronically, and I'm done! I don't have to do a single calculation or file a single piece of paper.
And those benefits are what makes it worth it to me
That'sThat's it from me
